Map TypesDepending on the Call of Duty game that you are playing, will determine the types of maps that will be available to you. The games campaign also affects your available maps, maps where campaign missions take placed will often be the maps that you can use in on or off-line multiplayer games. There are a few diifrent types of maps, which consist of large, small, compact and open. large maps are usually used for game modes such as capture the flag or team death match. Small maps are typically used for fast game modes such as gun game and team deathmatch as well. If you are using a compact map with lots of buildings, walls and obsicals, then you will probably want to use close range weapons. Open maps with wide open areas will be better used with longer range weapons.
Large Open MapsWhen using a large open map in Cal of Duty, you want to make sure that you are using an apropriate game mode that will fit your map. Modes such capture the flag, Defuse, and even team death match will work best on large open maps With large open maps, you still have buildings and wall but not quite as much as on a small compact map. When playing on a large open map, you would typically use long range weapons such as snipers. Asualt rifles can also be effective on larger maps when the right attachments are used, longer range scopes, underbarrel grips and upgraded stocks are good starters. Close range weapons are usually not a good choice on large open maps because close range combat is not very common.
Small Compact MapsLike on large open maps, when using small compact maps, you want to make sure that you choose a game mode that will best fit your map. Fast game modes such as gun game and like on large maps, team death match, work best on small compact maps. Small compact maps are maps that cover a small area but are fill with building, walls, and vehicles or other cover objects. While playing on these small maps, you dont want to use long range weapons or RPGs this is because there is not enough room to snipe and with an RPG, you will more than likly blow yourself up, instead, you want to use close range weapons such as shot guns and sub machine guns. Since close range combat is the main focus on these maps, you could get away wiht an AR but again, you would have to make sure that you use the proper attachments.
